Design & Digital Engagement Internship

We’re looking for a creative, social justice-oriented, and self-motivated community impact designer who enjoys the beat of a grassroots startup and is passionate about growing visual storytelling in community. The person in this role will work closely with the creative team and community architect.
Length of Internship: Three months, starting early March through end of May (with the possibility of extension based on organizational needs and funding)
Location: SEAD Office (NEON) 1007 West Broadway Avenue, Minneapolis, MN 55411 Hours: 20 hours per week
Compensation & Benefits: $800/mo or $2,400 total stipend. Mileage reimbursement for events and work-related travel provided. Professional development opportunities include events, training, conferences, and mentorship by creative leaders.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Co-create and manage social media, digital engagement, and outreach to amplify SEAD’s programs and projects (SEA Roots, Planting SEADS, SEA Change, etc)
- Effectively promote SEAD’s Soon Storytelling Shop (such as writing product descriptions, taking product shots, creating ads, etc)
- Co-design visual graphics for:
- Storytelling projects (1.5 exhibit, etc)
- Marketing materials (event and program flyers, advertisements, and collateral, etc)
- Social media graphics
Skills & Qualifications:
Previous experience and/or working knowledge of creative design is preferred. Must be highly organized, efficient, reliable, committed, problem-solver, communicative, initiator, multitasker, analytical. Proficiency in design software (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Canva). Must be tech-savvy with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work with a diverse team and POCI communities, especially with Southeast Asian refugee and immigrant communities. Interest in impact design with a social justice lens is helpful in this role. Specific design skills preferred include illustration, photography, copywriting, typography, and layout.
