It’s a momentous time for our community! Our narratives matter, and The SEAD Project invites you to honor and celebrate the Southeast Asian community’s vibrant storytelling culture. Join us for Raise Our Roots: Grounding Joy, a 2-part event:

BOOK LAUNCH

2:30 - 4:30 p.m.  |  Free event

Celebrate with our community elders the launch of their stories through Planting SEADS’ second anthology, Knowing Our Joy. Learn more about this anthology here.

Listen as they read their stories of joy and cultural pride, translated live. We want to honor the happiness our elders worked hard to instill and pass on in spite of, in rebellion of, through, or beyond war and trauma. Illustrations from book will be on display, available for auction at the gala.

GALA

6:30 - 9:30 p.m.  |  Tickets start at $50

We’re sustaining cultural joy through the night by showcasing Southeast Asian performance artists and continuing readings from our community elders. Ground yourself in joy through art, storytelling, music, and goods found in our silent auction. Enjoy food and drinks included in your ticket! Your participation will benefit SEAD’s critical work in language, storytelling, and creative community building.

Get 10% off the Knowing Our Joy book (originally $35) by purchasing a gala ticket.

KNOWING OUR JOY

Collecting and preserving our stories allows us to connect to our homelands, preserve our traditions, learn from our pasts, and keep the voices of our people alive for generations to come. Elders from our diaspora community have come together to share their stories, allowing us to celebrate their humanity and share in their hardships. We know our people are more than the war that brought them here. In our new collection, Planting SEADS: Knowing Our Joy, we honor those family members that have shaped us. Celebrate their voices and hear from them at our book launch event!
